Massachusetts Kinnikinnick
Massachusetts Kinnikinnick (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi 'Massachusetts') is a small, evergreen shrub that is native to North America. This low-growing plant features glossy, dark green leaves that turn reddish-bronze in the fall, adding a touch of color to the landscape. In spring, the shrub produces small, pink or white bell-shaped flowers that give way to red berries, which persist into the winter months, providing food for wildlife. Massachusetts Kinnikinnick is an excellent groundcover plant, spreading by underground stems to form a dense mat that effectively controls erosion. It is also tolerant of dry, rocky soils, making it ideal for use in rock gardens or naturalistic landscapes.
